DOG e.V. – about the society
The DOG Deutsche Ophthalmologische Gesellschaft e. V. (German Ophthalmology Society) is the specialized medical and scientific society for ophthalmology in Germany. It unites more than 7.900 doctors, researchers, and scientists. It is the oldest ophthalmology society in the world, and supports scientific projects and studies, hosts congresses, and publishes journals. By offering scholarships to young researchers, it ensures the future of ophthalmology. Founded in 1857, the society seeks to support ophthalmology.
The project
With the start of full IT support and detailed stocktaking by the abilis team – during which all possible risks of the IT infrastructure were uncovered – the necessary solutions are implemented. A continuous optimization of the IT infrastructure is an essential part of the all-round support.
STARTING POINT
Before the collaboration with abilis, the IT system landscape of the DOG was supported by a small, local system house. Due to the closure of the previous provider, the DOG needed a new IT provider. Rapid reaction and processing times, as well as a partnership at eye level, were especially important for the DOG.
START OF PROJECT
First, we carried out an extensive technical analysis of all important areas. The identified weaknesses and risks were recorded and prioritized in collaboration with the DOG. The holistic incorporation of the IT system landscape forms the basis of our IT services. Through this, we can provide the DOG with custom solutions that are ideally aligned with their structures and processes. Of course, the IT security of our customers is extremely important to us, which is why we implemented a coherent and centrally manageable client AV solution at the DOG right after our analysis. This allowed us to immediately increase the IT security of the DOG.
Successful go live
The DOG suffered no restrictions during the transition phase. Everything was completed smoothly. To avoid hard disruptions, we operated parallelly with the previous provider. This also allowed staff to get used to working with the abilis as their point of contact. Since the final takeover, we have been fully taking care of the IT of the DOG.
Further planning
It is extremely important for us to optimally ensure the IT security of our customers. Therefore, we decided to implement the identified and prioritized matters of the OP list at the DOG, which will help continuously increase the security level. In addition, the dated server infrastructure is set to be replaced. Via a proof of concept, the decision will be made whether a local infrastructure shall be used, or whether to make the step into the cloud.
The added benefits of our solution
Short reaction times and defined service level agreements create clear expectations
Clear communication and fast problem solving even with lower-priority tasks
Direct contact between the DOG staff and the abilis team
Initial analysis ensured an optimal solution aligned with the structures of the DOG IT landscape
